Ferrier, John Todd
This is the second of two volumes concerned with the infinite spiritual realms to be found within us. These teachings restate the traditional Christian message in a way which reveals its essential spirituality and shows it to be universal in scope. The subject matter is frequently Biblical in its terminology although the message it reveals is cosmic in nature and applied to all life. Here one will find many church events, festivals, practices and history reinterpreted and shown to be earthly manifestations of Divine events within the Soul. All of these manifestations are resident within us as truths to be restored, for we learn that all Souls have had many lives, and these truths, which are lodged in our spiritual memory, may be recovered if we seek the life of which they speak.563pp.

Derrida, Jacques

Ouspensky, P. D.
This text describes Gurdjieff's cosmology from Ouspensky's perspective as student, and shows how Ouspensky's formulation of his own ideas eventually led to his break with Gurdjieff. The book conveys a strong and lasting impression that not only did Ouspensky discover a real knowledge about man and his relationship with the universe, but that a practical cosmic teaching for the conduct of life is even now in existence.420pp.N.B.Spine a little rubbed.

Van Inwagen, Peter
What are the most general features of the world? Why does the world exist? And what is the nature and place of rational beings in the world? In Metaphysics , van Inwagen surveys the classical answers to these questions and provides examples of how to think about them more clearly and deeply. He introduces readers to most of the perennial topics of metaphysics, including appearance and reality, identity and individuation, objectivity, necessary existence, mind and body, teleology, and freedom of the will. }Accepting the traditional definition of metaphysics as the study of ultimate reality, Peter van Inwagen builds this textbook around three crucial questions: What are the most general features of the world? Why does the world exist? And what is the nature and place of rational beings in the world? In the informal but precise style for which he is known, van Inwagen surveys the classical answers to these questions and provides examples of how to think about them more clearly and deeply. He introduces readers to most of the perennial topics of metaphysics, including appearance and reality, identity and individuation, objectivity, necessary existence, mind and body, teleology, and freedom of the will. Metaphysics is engaging and provocative, and through it van Inwagen provides a lucid guide to the study of First Questions and a paradigm of philosophical exposition. 222pp. N.B. Rubbing to edges and corners of covers and spine.

Marion, Jean-Luc
Does Descartes belong to metaphysics? What do we mean when we say "metaphysics"? These questions form the point of departure for Jean-Luc Marion's study of Cartesian thought. Analyses of Descartes' notion of the "ego" and his idea of God show that if Descartes represents the fullest example of metaphysics, he nonetheless transgresses its limits. Writing as philosopher and historian of philosophy, Marion uses Heidegger's concept of metaphysics to interpret the Cartesian corpus - an interpretation strangely omitted from Heidegger's own history of philosophy. This interpretation complicates and deepens the Heideggerian concept of metaphysics, a concept that has dominated 20th-century philosophy. Examinations of Descartes' predecessors (Aristotle, Augustine, Aquinas, and Suarez) and his successors (Leibniz, Spinoza, and Hegel) clarify the meaning of the Cartesian revolution in philosophy. Translated by Jeffrey Kosky, this work should appeal to historians of philosophy, students of religion, and anyone interested in the genealogy of contemporary thought and its contradictions. 370pp. N.B. Previous owners inscription to ffep. Front cover slightly marked.
