Ferguson, William M.; Adams, Richard E. W
The Anasazi Indians of the Southwest represent 2,500 years of cultural continuity, from the early Basket Makers of 700 B.C. to their modern descendants, the Pueblo Indians. The pueblos and cliff dwellings they built during their halcyon days between 1100 and 1500 A.D. are the most spectacular ruins north of Mexico. In this book, all of the significant and accessible Anasazi ruins are photographed and described in detail. Special attention is paid to the magnificent sites of Mesa Verde, Chaco Canyon, Canyon de Chelly, and Kayenta. Also included are illustrations of rock art and examples of the delicate jewellery and beautiful ceramics that have survived.

Edited By Eriksen, Berit Valetin and Bratlund, Bodil
The final paleolithic cultures of the European plain were characterised by a variety of adaptive responses, reflected in technologies, settlement patterns, subsistence practices, social organisations and, possibly, ideologies. Underlying this regional diversity of specific environmental and cultural changes that were relatively rapid and extreme and that would very likely have had major use among geographically and geomorphologically different regions across most of North-western Europe, this volume aims at a detailed inter- as well as intra-regional comparison and contrast of approaches and results. Chapters discuss general problems such as the reconstruction of Lateglacial environments, the chronology of final paleolithic colonisation and questions of cultural differentiation, and they present reports concerning the most interesting and important recent discoveries from different parts of the plain. 207pp. N.B. 2 Scratches across front board.
