Oppenheimer, Paul
Guilt makes no compromises. One may be a little in love or a little bit angry, but the idea of degrees of guilt is meaningless. Any guilt, whether of the emotional, religious or legal variety, is fiendishly intense. The word itself points to a mysterious intensity of indebtedness, and this with an absolution extraordinary in human affairs. This book aims to go to the heart of the mystery. Its theme, that of the absolutism of guilt, is explored from a variety of different perspectives and through a series of anecdotes. The author examines the sources of the word "guilt"; languages and cultures without the concept of guilt; the religious importance and meaning of guilt, in Judaism, Christianity and other religions; psychological investigations of guilt, by Freud and Jung, among others; guilt and criminal behaviour; guilt and mourning; the effect of guilt as a creative stimulant in modern times, on literature, art, politics, law and film; and the mysterious persistence of guilt in modern secular societies Throughout, the text is supported with quotations from authors ancient and modern. 127pp.

Edited By Dawson,P. And Clauss,W.
For all that new non-X-ray technologies such as MR and ultrasound and its various manifestations have made an impact on the practice of medical imaging, the use of X-rays and X-ray contrast-enhancing agents has retained an important position at the heart of the process. Indeed, with its frequent requirements for high total dose regimes, CT has increased the use of contrast agents. Even helical/spiral CT which, it was initially argued, should reduce contrast as well as radiation loads, may actually require just as much or more of both because of the potential it offers for multi-phase scanning. Iodinated intravascular X-ray contrast agents, especially the more recently developed non-ionic agents, continue therefore to play a pivotal role in clinical imaging. These articles, originally appearing in the journal "Advances in X-ray Contrast", range sufficiently widely for their compilation in this volume to be considered a mini-textbook on the water-soluble iodinated X-ray contrast agents and their applications. Each is written by an acknowledged and experienced expert in the field. They usefully cover the developmental history of the agents; defined risk factors, approaches to prophylaxis and, ultimately, of the treatment of adverse reactions; the subject of supposed delayed reactions to contrast agents; the important organ-specific toxicities, cardiac toxicity, neurotoxicity and nephrotoxicity and high-dose toxicity as encountered in complex procedures; the sometimes special circumstances and occasional extreme conditions to which contrast agents may be exposed in Interventional Radiology; the special, in several ways, case of paediatric radiology; the controversial subject of thromboembolic phenomena in clinical angiography; and the precise role of contrast agents. 114pp.

Tunney, Sean
Labour sought to develop policies regulating newspaper ownership and the role of journalists. It endeavoured to both correct what it perceived as press bias against the Labour Party and to address the broader issues of political and cultural diversity. "Labour's & the Press, 1972-2005" provides a lucid analysis of how Labour's policies on the press sit within the context of the party's overall development - from Harold Wilson, through the party's flirtation with Robert Maxwell, to the robust approach of Tony Blair. It offers a fresh insight into New Labour's concern with press management and political communications. The author demonstrates how tensions of the past shed new light on Labour Party practices of the present. 212pp.
