Edited By Johannsen, Lars and Pedersen, Karin Hilmer
Political and economic developments after the implosion of the Sovjet Union have not been easy, nor have outcomes been similar. In this book the different trajectories of political development in post-communist countries are traced through cases from within the post-communist region that exhibit maximum variation in terms of both background variables and outcome. Six countries - Kazakhstan, Geogia, Estonia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Poland - have been selected. Following the Tocquevillian tradition, a 'method' of indirect comparison where in-depth knowledge of a country based on linguistics and history is held up against existing concepts, six country specialists have drawn broad pictures of what characterises 'their' country in terms of political and economic reform, state building and nation building, at the same time placing developments within the international context. The book argues that the elite constellation along two dimensions - consensus about the direction of policy and institutions, and the extent of inclusion of elite interests in decision making - is specific to each country and points to the direction of future developments. 170pp.

This is the first publication of AIJA's Antitrust Sub-Commission of the International Business Law Standing Commission. The book is the result of the reports from 20 different jurisdictions for the working session organized by the Antitrust Sub-Commission during the Annual Congress of AIJA in Sydney in September 1998. The reports were based upon a questionnaire prepared by the General Reporter and Editor and generally reflect legislation up until January 1999. The purpose of this book is to discuss the critical issues in applying antitrust laws to the media sector, having in mind three main issues, namely deregulation and convergence in the media industry worldwide, the effect of antitrust laws on the new media environment, and the balance between sector-specific regulation and antitrust rules. 442pp.

Cragg, Kenneth
This study explores the taxing question of whether Christ-Learning should be an ongoing process by presenting examples of the critical and personal learning undertaken by minds exercised with scholarship, ecclesiology, poetry, the novel and sexuality. While the responses to faith in Christ of the seven chosen figures Chr(45) Richard Hooker, John Henry Newman, Robert Browning, William Faulkner, Rudyard Kipling, Friedrich Nietzsche and Oscar Wilde Chr(45) are highly personal, it is the theme of "education", which was at the heart of every Messianic achievement, that throws up confrontations to the orthodox approach to faith. These individuals are eminently representative of biography wrestling with what the New Testament Scripture first understood. Their experiences can be signified in a New Testament play on words: "emathen apathen" Chr(45) "suffering they learned, learning they suffered". 279pp.
