An in-depth look at the fascinating sculptural works of one of the twentieth century's most innovative artists. Joseph Beuys (1921-86), - the German sculptor, teacher, activist and performance artist, became one of the most influential figures in modern and contemporary art. His charismatic presence, extraordinary life, and unconventional artistic style gained him international fame and notoriety during the 1960s, '70s, and '80s. Beuys's innovative influence is particularly felt in the field of sculpture, whose definition he expanded to encompass performance art, activism and site-specific environments. His use of unconventional materials including fat, felt, honey, blood and living trees reflected both the mythologising of his personal history and his growing political commitment. This beautifully illustrated book investigates Beuys's sculpture, arguably the most fundamental aspect of his artistic work, as well as his extraordinary influence. Featured objects include a selection of Beuys's remarkable vitrines, cousins of standard museum presentations, featuring both hand-made and found objects blackboards on which he jused in delivering lectures and performances; room-sized environments; and many other objects that served as physical documentation of Beuys's performances. With a comprehensive chronology of Beuys's activities both as an artist and activist, this book is essential for those interested in the life, work, and legacy of one of twentieth century art's most intriguing figures. 224pp. N.B. This is one of a series of annual publications of labour law judgements by the highest courts in a number of jurisdictions. They are intended primarily for the use of judges, labour law practitioners, industrial relations specialists and students who need access to authoritative information of a comparative nature on problems arising in the field of labour law and industrial relations. Each judgement reprinted in this volume is accompanied by headnotes and an annotation which sets forth, among other things, the legal issues involved, the basic facts of the case (if not included in the judgement itself), the relevant statutory provisions and judicial precendents, the labour law and industrial relations context in which the case arose, and the significance of the judgement in the development of the law. The book provides the reader with factual information that is not coloured by the personal views of the annotators. As a rule, judgements are printed "in extenso"; editorial discretion has been employed to delete or summarize portions of judgements that are purely technical or only of marginal interest. Volume 16 covers the period 1 October 1995 to 30 September 1996. N.B.Slight label residue to base of spine.

Samarpan, Amano
Slight bump to spine. This title shows you Indian birds as you may never have seen them before! In these pages, you can see the details of creatures that otherwise, one might be able to afford only a glimpse of. This book of photographic portraits presents both common and seldom seen birds of the Indian subcontinent in their habitats not just as a way to more clearly identify and hence understand them but also because it recognises the important role that environment plays in their survival. The future of birds not only rests on the preservation of their habitats, the avian population is itself an important indication of the health of the environment. Birds typically have evolved through their ability to exploit a certain ecological niche. Although the environment a particular bird prefers over another is seldom a defining characteristic, such classification can help in identifying birds in the field and provide valuable data towards understanding their behaviour. 115pp.

In this title, publishers from 31 independent presses talk about how they came to publishing and why they stayed (or didn't), the mistakes they made, their relationships with authors, the problems of growth, definitions of success, why they do or do not seek grants, their relationships with distributors, bookstores, New York and Toronto, and each other. More than just a directory, "Publishing Lives" presents these publishers as the spiritual heirs of the nineteenth-century founders of the great New York houses. 570pp. N.B.
