Edited By Waring,M.J. And Ponder,B.A.J.
Most of the anti-cancer drugs in use today were discovered by happy accident rather than design, yet the rational design of better anti-cancer drugs remains a cherished goal, and one of the most important challenges facing medical science. This work represents a compilation of views and progress reports which illustrate the diversity of approaches to the problem. Recent research has confirmed the belief that critical genetic changes are at work in cancer cells. The genome (DNA in biochemical terms) represents a critical target for specific chemotherapy of cancer, and several chapters address the issue of attacking DNA, gene targetting, and the like. Others deal with principles of rational design, exploitation of novel modalities and targets, or the nuts and bolts of antitumour drug testing. While no attempt has been made to provide a comprehensive coverage of this wide-ranging subject, this volume aims to provide much food for thought.284pp.

Rioni, S. G. (editor)
Since Hong Kong's 1997 passage from British to mainland Chinese sovereignty went so uneventfully, "issues surrounding the city have virtually disappeared from the American consciousness" according to the editor. Ten contributed chapters explore issues and trends that continue to test the "two countries".

Campbell, Nedra
An essential guide to making "the system" work in the reader's favour, this book will arm African American employees, family members, consumers, tenants, business owners, civil plaintiffs, voters, criminal suspects, prisoners, and victims with legal information that will empower them to demand that those in power respect and honour their rights, no matter how difficult their situation. The American legal system was created by white men for white men, and therefore it often fails to reflect and protect the values and interests of black men and women. But over a century after slavery and decades after Jim Crow, African Americans can now use this imperfect system to their advantage. The notion of having rights is flawed; citizens truly have only those rights they choose to exercise or claim, and this book will show them how to do so.
