Ginat, Joseph and Perkins, Edward J.
There has been little progress on the refugee problem because of official Palestinian public positions, other Arab countries' approach to the 'right of return' of all Palestinian refugees, and the contrasting Israeli public policy of not allowing any refugees to return to Israel. Such polar-opposite approaches can never resolve this difficult and longstanding humanitarian problem. By working collectively, the world's leading experts from Arab countries, the Palestinian Authority, Israel, Europe and the United States have developed a chessboard of proposed solutions. The volume in part reflects the polarization that exists on the issue, and in part moves away from the political slogans of both sides, toward concrete proposals for negotiating a comprehensive agreement. 341pp.

Kowaleski-Wallace, Elizabeth
What does it mean for a woman writer to identify strongly with her father and with the patriarchal tradition he represents? What factors motivate such identification, and what are its consequences? This book answers such questions through a close examination of the lives and selected works of two late eighteenth-century women writers, Hannah More and Maria Edgeworth, who were complicitous with their fathers' politics. While feminist theory has developed a powerful body of explanations for some women's rebellion against patriarchy, it has not yet adequately accounted for the many women - like More and Edgeworth - who gladly wrote the conservative political writings which actively proselytized against social democracy. This book exposes the complex psychological dynamics behind their choices, uncovers `daughterly complicity', and discusses the motivations behind such behaviour. 235pp. N.B. Edited By Card, Claudia
"Adventures in Lesbian Philosophy" explores diverse positive understandings of "lesbian philosophy." Tangren Alexander and Joyce Trebilcot critique the dualisms and methods of traditional Euro-American philosophy and offer creative experiments in wisdom-seeking; Bat-Ami Bar On and Lorena Leigh Saxe examine areas of contested sexual behaviors, such as pornography and sadomasochism; Elizabeth Deumer and Jacquelyn Zita take up the issue of constructing the meaning of "lesbian"; and Chris Cuomo, Barbara Houston, Ruthann Robson, Sarah Lucia Hoagland, and Kathleen Martindale and Martha Saunders discuss facets of lesbian community and responsibility. Special features include: Jacquelyn Zita's portrait of Jeffner Allen's creative lesbian philosophy, Mar'a Lugones' study of Gloria Anzald a's "Borderlands/La Frontera", Naomi Scheman's reflections on Jewish lesbian writing, and Ruth Ginzberg's interpretation of Audre Lorde's conception of eros. Editor Claudia Card has also included an up-to-date bibliography of lesbian philosophy and related works. 262pp. N.B. Previous owners inscription to ffep.
