This is one of a series of annual publications of labour law judgements by the highest courts in a number of jurisdictions. They are intended primarily for the use of judges, labour law practitioners, industrial relations specialists and students who need access to authoritative information of a comparative nature on problems arising in the field of labour law and industrial relations. Each judgement reprinted in this volume is accompanied by headnotes and an annotation which sets forth, among other things, the legal issues involved, the basic facts of the case (if not included in the judgement itself), the relevant statutory provisions and judicial precendents, the labour law and industrial relations context in which the case arose, and the significance of the judgement in the development of the law. The book provides the reader with factual information that is not coloured by the personal views of the annotators. As a rule, judgements are printed "in extenso"; editorial discretion has been employed to delete or summarize portions of judgements that are purely technical or only of marginal interest. Volume 16 covers the period 1 October 1995 to 30 September 1996. N.B.Slight label residue to base of spine.

This book gives new insight into the vitality of the Spanish Colonial art tradition as a connector of cultures world-wide. The book argues for the relevance of Spanish Colonial art as both a powerful document of the past and a living tradition in the modern age. By placing the lasting visions and values of yesterday within the context of today, we see the soul of an artistic tradition for all time. 176pp.

Rosenblatt, Jeremy
This text provides a commentary on all international Conventions that bear directly on the rights of the child. The legal issues covered include the child and immigration, intercountry adoption, international child abduction, human rights, armed conflict, and maintenance moneys. It is the first book ever to bring together Conventions that can be realistically relied upon in domestic courts, helping practitioners to avoid the pitfall of being deemed academic or distant from legal realities. Drawing on his extensive in-court experience, Jeremy Rosenblatt shows exactly how each Convention may be used to remind courts and judges of their obligations of an international nature, whether or not such Conventions have been incorporated into the domestic system. Among the Conventions presented and discussed, insofar as they bear on children's rights, are the Dublin Convention, the Hague Convention on Intercountry Adoption 1993, the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, and the Brussels and Lugano Conventions. The author shows how to ensure uniform processes for the protection of the rights of the child everywhere by invoking respective and uniform Conventions that are directly applicable in individual jurisdictions as a result of legal systems globally owning competence and legal comity with one another.288pp.
