Jobson, Gary
Covering 32,700 nautical miles over 10 months in an open yacht, spanning four oceans and stopping at 10 ports on five continents, the Volvo Ocean Race is the world's premier ocean sailing event. This book presents a unique history of the race that has changed the sport of open-ocean racing forever and provides complete coverage of the race itself, from its start in Southampton, England, in September 2001, to its finish in Kiel, Germany, in June 2002. All of the action from every leg of the race is presented here in full detail, combining images from the world's foremost sailing photographers with colourful writing about the history of the race and the ambitious, adventurous competitors. 176pp. N.B. Chronic hepatitis has been the focus of intense scientific research for decades and considerable progress and new insights into its pathogenesis and resulting therapeutic strategies have been made. Replication of hepatitis B and C viruses and details of its life cycle in the host have been well characterized. Immunology in general and immunopathology of the liver in viral and autoimmune hepatitis have shown more specific mechanisms of host defence and new models of autoimmune aggression have been developed. The role of apoptosis in liver damage is now well appreciated and has been analyzed precisely. Essential steps of fibrogenesis as a consequence of chronic liver damage are now better understood and new strategies for its prevention have evolved. Chronic hepatitis is the leading cause of liver cell carcinoma, the molecular basis of which has been more clearly elucidated. This increasing knowledge should provide a sound basis for more effective therapy in chronic hepatitis and its life-threatening consequences. This book, the proceedings of the Falk Workshop on Chronic Hepatitis, held in Cologne, Germany, on January 27-28, 2000, brings together experts from different fields of research such as virology, immunology, pathology, cell and molecular biology, as well as clinical medicine, and discusses in depth the novel findings in basic and clinical research.275pp. N.B.Slight fading to d/j spine.

Atherton, R. F. (Editor)
The International Academy of Estate and Trust Law is a prestigious body that effects real change in courts, law reform commissions and governmental agencies. This volume records the May 2001 conference in San Francisco, which focused on four main topics: the regulation of charitable organizations in major Western countries; the rules governing capacity to enter into transactions affecting property; the ability of creditors to reach assets that are held on behalf of another; and the issue of testamentary freedom versus forced heirship. This yearbook signals a departure from earlier volumes in that the papers under the fourth topic are after-the-fact essays, reflecting arguments and points of view originally presented in a debate between the four authors. As always, this annual continues to offer perspectives on issues of direct and immediate concern for both civil law and common law jurisdictions, and to engage the deep interest of researchers, academics, practitioners, law reform bodies, governmental groups and their advisers working in this complex and varied field of law. 302pp.
