Edited By Lembcke,B.;Kruis,W. And Sartor,R.B.
This book, composed of the proceedings of Falk Symposium 98 held in Titisee, Germany, 25-26 May 1997, provides an analysis of the field of extra-intestinal manifestations of IBD, which gastroenterologists frequently see, but which require close contact with other subspecialities. The basic understanding of the pathophysiology of extraintestinal manifestations requires upgrading, based on recent advances in animal models or clinical investigation. While the intestinal manifestations of IBD are increasingly well characterized, the extraintestinal facets of IBD currently are best understood on the basis of sophisticated clinical description, thorough investigation and an excellent clinical standing. Modern techniques in immunology, microbiology, pathobiochemistry and new horizons in imaging methods as well as in surgery, however, have substantially contributed to this knowledge, and the book should therefore foster a mutual exchange between the basic or theoretical disciplines and clinicians, including a variety of different subspecialities in order to stimulate clinical and theoretical research topics. Accordingly, the book embraces both aspects: current knowledge on extraintestinal manifestations of IBD, as well as a definition of objectives and a path for future steps in research. 388pp.N.B.Fading to d/j spine.

Norton,Joseph J. Editor
The fourth volume of this Yearbook provides essays, articles, comments and analyses of developments throughout the previous year. The new essay section of this volume is contributed by Shangquan Gao, Senior Professor in the State Council of PRC who examines the negative influence of the Asian financial crisis on China. Professor Eva Holz, Deputy Governor at Uruguayan Central Bank, Dr Michael Gruson, Senior Banking Partner at Shearman & Sterling, and Professor Geoffrey Wood of City University are some of the contributors of major articles in the edition. One of the salient features of the volume is that it focuses on new developments in post-financial crisis restructuring measures taken by various countries, such as PRC, Brazil and Japan. Complementary to this issue, globalization, international financial stability, and international capital flows are also discussed comprehensively. The period covered by the volume has witnessed major financial and economic law reform projects in various areas of the world. The volume offers comprehensive analysis of these reforms including the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999 in the US and its influence on the global financial sector, progress in collateral law reform in Central and Eastern Europe, the development of securities law and the Internet in the UK, commercialization of China's land use right, reform of Hong Kong property tax system, and legal changes in Japanese asset securitisation and investment. Some issues are re-explored in this volume from new and different perspectives. The discussion of the integration of insurance and other financial services in Taiwan, of the Lender of Last Resort, of the solutions to the non-performing loan problems in China, of capital adequacy under the Basle new capital adequacy framework, and sovereign debt restructuring in Latin America will offer the readers new insights into these issues. This volume should appeal to anyone with an interest in international financial and economic law throughout the world. Its broad geographic scope and the expertise of the contributors offer an indispensable chance for the readers to keep abreast with developments in a rapidly changing area of the law.553pp.
