Stafford-Deitsch, Jeremy
Millions of tourists visit the ancient Egyptian sites annually and are inspired by the ruins. Yet it is impossible for them to photograph the ruins adequately: the sites are overrun with tourists, photography is forbidden in various locations and amateur cameras cannot correct the perspectives of the monuments. Meanwhile no book currently exists of professional-quality photographs specifically portraying the monuments. It is many decades since the Egyptian sites have been systematically photographed on large format photographic equipment. Jeremy Stafford-Deitsch has visited and photographed the major sites as well as little-known locations such as the desert oases and the Fayum. By working in the summer he has also managed to photograph the sites without a single tourist appearing in the pictures. Innumerable books have appeared over the decades dealing with the culture and artefacts of Ancient Egypt. This is the first large-scale book in just as many decades that does justice to the prime source of the visitor's interest: the monuments themselves. With 120 stunning colour photographs and accompanying text about the major sites, this book should fully reflect the magnificence of Egypt's greatest monuments. Previous owners label on front paste down.167pp.

Carmichael, Al
Slight scratch on front board otherwise New. Friends and fans have repeatedly asked Al 'Hoagy' Carmichael to put his life and experiences in professional football, Hollywood, and the Marines in writing. Like a lot of people during the 1930s his family struggled. That struggle only became greater when his father, the main breadwinner of the family, died when Carmichael was a teenager. From those humble beginnings, Carmichael went on to attend a prestigious private university, build successful careers in professional football and motion pictures, and provide for his family in a way his parents couldn't have dreamed. This autobiography is a nostalgic and humorous journey through Carmichael's life and two careers. This story will take readers behind the scenes during the glory years of professional football and the movie and television industry. 399pp.

Orton, Peter; Fry, John
Health systems throughout the world are undergoing tremendous change and this is particularly true in the United Kingdom, where the reforms over the last ten years have had a major impact on all aspects of how health care is planned, delivered and managed. This work selects, interprets and puts into context the vast amount of information available on health-care systems both in the UK and elsewhere in the world. Key points include the illustration of trends over time, comparisons with other countries and systems and the coverage of all aspects of health care, both public and private. The result is a single source of facts, figures and, most importantly, interpretation of the vast amount of scattered information available on the UK health care system. The book should be of interest to all those involved in the provision of health services: patients, doctors, nurses, managers and policy makers. 178pp.Slightly marked at base of spine.
