Klostermann,Judith E.m. And Tukker,Arnold Editors
Systematically addressing the drivers, the tools, and sector-specific elements that play a role in the field of sustainable development, this text begins with a general introduction to eco-efficiency and the related challenges to industry in its implementation. It then presents 23 case studies, almost all written by industrial experts who tell how they deal with the challenge: what the motivators are, what tools can be used and how they can be implemented, and what are the specific elements in sectors like building, electronics and packaging. These contributions come from multinationals such as Unilever, Procter & Gamble, Akzo Nobel, Philips and Ciba-Geigy, as well as small and medium-sized enterprises from such sectors as the building and furniture trades. Zhou, Zhongfei
This work conducts a critical examination of Chinese foreign banking law in the context of the international convergence of supervisory standards and practices. If China is to develop a modern and viable banking sector, it needs to put in place a suitable legal infrastructure which is consistent with emerging international supervisory standards, WTO requirements and aspirations for financial sector liberalization. The author argues that the current foreign banking laws are fundamentally out of line with international standards and practices in a number of respects and that legislators and supervisors do not at present appreciate or cultivate commonly accepted supervisory values. The author therefore proposes a set of reforms that would at the same time create a legal environment for competitive equality between foreign banks and protect the safety and soundness of the Chinese banking system. The issues considered include the licensing process for the entry of foreign banks into the Chinese market, the ongoing regulation of foreign banks and foreign bank crisis management or bank failure resolution. The author offers a proposed framework of Chinese foreign banking law which should be of great benefit to existing and prospective foreign banks in China. 241pp.

Bullock, Karen O.; Tilley, Nick
Problem-oriented policing has been one of the most significant new approaches to policing and crime reduction in recent years, and in the UK significant funding was provided to a variety of projects adopting a problem solving methodology in both policing and crime prevention and reduction partnerships as part of the government's Crime Reduction Programme. This book aims to draw upon the main findings of this initiative, to provide an overview of the government's Targeted Policing Initiative as a whole, to describe findings about the adoption of a problem solving approach, and to indicate what was learned from efforts to address the specific problems targeted in the evaluated initiatives. 311pp. N.B. Windsor, Philip; Edited By Berdal, Mats
Philip Windsor (1935-2000) is widely acknowledged to have been among the brightest and most penetrating of thinkers in International Relations. This book brings together some of his most exciting and stimulating essays, covering many of the classic and most enduring issues in International Relations: the causes of wars; intervention and the use of force; the regulation of conflict; human rights and the tensions between order and justice. Windor's philosophical bias, together with his elegant prose and sheer breadth of knowledge, gave an underlying coherence and unity to all his writings. The essays include brilliant essays on East-West relations during the Cold War, arms control, Clausewitz's contribution to strategic thought, Henry Kissinger's scholarly contribution and the place of human rights and cultural dialogue in international politics. 246pp.
