Flowers, Arthur;Curtis, Anthony;Neiman, Leroy
This coffee-table art book is one-of-a-kind. From hundreds of portrayals created over centuries by celebrated artists, such as Cezanne, Picasso, Munch, Leger, de la Tour, Remington, and Neiman, the best 120 were chosen to appear in this provocative visual documentation of the evolution of gambling. Much more than a compilation of subject-specific art, this book offers a scholarly look at the history of gaming. Each image is accompanied by a facing page of text, providing readers with a thumbnail sketch of the artist, then zeroing in on the image itself. The renderings, as seen through the artist's eye and preserved on canvas or in stone, serve as a form of 'photographic' chronicling that weaves a history of gambling through the ages - for the benefit of art lovers and gambling enthusiasts alike. 231pp. N.B. Tiny closed tear to bottom edge of front D/J.

Edited By Touchard,Guy,Hermine,Olivier,Aucouturier,Pierre and Ronco,Pierre
The kidney involvement in monoclonal gammopathies is a fascinating field of research and of great concern to clinical practice. The book is divided into four parts. The first one is devoted to "the culprits" and includes contributions from leading investigators in B-cell proliferations, immunoglobulin synthesis, secretion and structure, light chain uptake and metabolism in the kidney. The second and third parts are devoted to "the victims": the tubule and the glomerulus. New insights into pathophysiology, clinical and histological features, treatment of renal lesions and therapy of B-cell proliferations are reported in myeloma cast nephropathy, Fanconi's syndrome, Randall-type monoclonal immunoglobulin deposition disease and non amyloid organized monoclonal immunoglobulin deposits. In the last part, immunoglobulinic amyloidosis is considered with a round table devoted to stem cell transplantation and new promising therapies in AL amyloidosis. 298pp.

Markham, Leonard
York is one of the most visited cities in Europe, and in this book well-known Yorkshire author Len Markham explores many different facets of its long and extraordinary history - characters, institutions and achievements. We meet a Swiss confectioner who came to England to seek his fortune; on arrival in London, unable to speak a word of English, he was directed to the wrong station, boarded the wrong train and found himself in Yorkshire - where he founded the best-loved teashop in the country. We uncover the far from holy antics of York's former archbishops. We discover what prompted Hitler to order York's destruction. We shiver at the most haunted city in the world. And we learn all about 'Charlie Artful' - a detective who solved more murders than any other officer in the Murder Squad. This really is history with the boring bits left out - and anyone who lives in or visits the beautiful city of York will enjoy the tales that Len Markham tells. 151pp.
