Covering 32,700 nautical miles over 10 months in an open yacht, spanning four oceans and stopping at 10 ports on five continents, the Volvo Ocean Race is the world's premier ocean sailing event. This book presents a unique history of the race that has changed the sport of open-ocean racing forever and provides complete coverage of the race itself, from its start in Southampton, England, in September 2001, to its finish in Kiel, Germany, in June 2002. All of the action from every leg of the race is presented here in full detail, combining images from the world's foremost sailing photographers with colourful writing about the history of the race and the ambitious, adventurous competitors. 176pp. N.B. There has been little progress on the refugee problem because of official Palestinian public positions, other Arab countries' approach to the 'right of return' of all Palestinian refugees, and the contrasting Israeli public policy of not allowing any refugees to return to Israel. Such polar-opposite approaches can never resolve this difficult and longstanding humanitarian problem. By working collectively, the world's leading experts from Arab countries, the Palestinian Authority, Israel, Europe and the United States have developed a chessboard of proposed solutions. The volume in part reflects the polarization that exists on the issue, and in part moves away from the political slogans of both sides, toward concrete proposals for negotiating a comprehensive agreement. 341pp.

Shadd, Adrienne
When the Lincoln Alexander Parkway was named, it was a triumph not only for this distinguished Canadian but for all African Canadians. This book looks at the history of blacks in the Ancaster-Burlington-Hamilton area, their long struggle for justice and equality in education and opportunity, and their achievements, presented in a fascinating and meticulously researched historical narrative. Although popular wisdom suggests that blacks first came via the Underground Railroad, the possibility that slaves owned by early settlers were part of the initial community, then known as the 'Head of the Lake', is explored. Adrienne Shadd's original research offers new insights into urban black history, filling in gaps on the background of families and individuals who are very much part of the history of this region, while also exploding stereotypes, such as that of the uneducated, low-income early black Hamiltonian. 374pp.

Recent advances in surgical procedures for the management of focal liver diseases have greatly increased the demand for diagnostic accuracy. So far these demands have been only partially met by further technical developments such as colour-coded duplex sonography, spiral CT and marked improvements in magnetic resonance imaging. It is becoming increasingly clear that liver specific contrast media are essential for utilizing these technical developments to their fullest advantage in patient care. Against this background, a workshop was held to explore the current methods of diagnostic imaging of the liver and to try and establish a profile for the future liver specific contrast media. This text presents the findings of the workshop. The pathologist's introductory and general overview is followed by chapters on the individual imaging procedures such as ultrasound, CT and MRI. The book should be of interest to radiologists from the various disciplines, and also those who plan and perform therapies, particularly surgeons and internists. 100pp.
