Edited By Jain,S.M.;Brar,D.S. And Ahloowalia,B.S.
The basic purpose of this book is to describe the relative value of each method of improving various agricultural crops by using parasexual techniques. While no book can be a complete source of all the information on a subject, a range of topics were selected to highlight the recent developments in mutagenesis (conventional approach and molecular biology) and in vitro induced variation in plant breeding. We have deliberately kept short the title of this book, simply emphasizing somaclonal variation and induced mutation. This book is divided into three sections. Section 1 contains 13 chapters mainly on somaclonal variation (SCV), covering SCV in crop improvement, SCV in ornamentals, cereals and forage grasses, banana, and forest trees, cytogenetic basis of SCV, in vitro selection, gametoclonal variation, protoclonal variation, and solanaceous medicinal plants. Section 2 deals with induced mutation, and is covered in 10 chapters mainly on mutagenesis in sugarcane, fruit trees, apomixsis, ornamental plants, disease resistance, cereals and legumes, and vegetatively propagated plants. 615pp.N.B.Small label mark at base of d/j spine.

Papadakos, Sue
Those We Do Not See". It could be just the title of a book. It may strike our curiosity and make us open it and admire beautiful pictures. But it could also be a strong stimulus. Not only of the vision, delighted by staring at the beauty, but of the spirit and soul as well. What is there beyond the visible? What our sight can catch we decided to really look around us? How much beauty is there within our reach, and we just pass by? This book offers exactly this peculiarity: it urges us to see. Through Sue Papadakos' sensitive eye and through her undoubtedly "technical" lens, we are given the chance to make a new start, looking around through different points of view, through different perspectives... It may become the starting point of a really essential and more beautiful life for all of us. Text in English and Greek. N.B.Rear cover of d/j slightly marked.

Hettinga, Kathy T.
Beginning in 1994, award-winning photographer and installation artist Kathy T Hettinga began a fourteen-year project to document an unknown body of funerary folk art displayed in the cemeteries of rural and largely Hispanic communities in the San Luis Valley in southern Colorado. Her photographs of unique grave markers made of wood, concrete, metal, sandstone, glass and other materials by individuals or families to commemorate the passing of love ones capture the ethereal beauty of the cemeteries and serve as a touchstone for our common understanding of loss, grief, and the need to memorialise and pay tribute. 178pp.
