Darwin, Charles; Edited By Glick, Thomas F and Kohn, David
Designed for use in a broad range of courses in the humanities, Darwin's theory is laid out in a concise general introduction and followed up in short chapter introductions. Each chapter concludes with an excerpt from Darwin's correspondence, commenting on the work in question, and its significance, impact, and reception. Two short appendixes are included - the first three chapters from Malthus, 'On Population', which gave Darwin the idea for natural selection and the paper by Wallace that motivated Darwin to abandon the "Big Species Book" and write "Origin of Species". 356pp.

Variend, S.
A practical approach to problems commonly encountered in paediatric tumour diagnosis. It comprehensively covers a wide range of common and unusual entities. Over 300 full-colour illustrations are complemented by a text which is pragmatic and succinct. References have been carefully selected to reflect current thought and well-written reviews. New treatment strategies have led to considerable improvement in the salvage rate and prognosis in childhood neoplasia. Histological diagnosis in this area is fraught with problems and the demand invariably has been for a prompt and accurate histological reporting. The problems, although wide-ranging, are particularly manifest in the area of the small round-cell tumours which constitute an important proportion of paediatric cancers. This atlas should be valuable as a bench manual for the practising pathologist and as a study aid for the trainee. It should also be of interest to all oncologists and paediatricians. 124pp.N.B.Small fade mark at base of d/j spine.

Grewlich, K.W.
"Cyberspace" is the emerging invisible, intangible world of electronic information and processes stored at multiple interconnected sites. The digital revolution leads to "convergence" (of telecommunications, computer/Internet and broadcasting) and to dynamic multimedia value chains. Deregulation and competition are major driving forces in the new interactive electronic environment. This volume contains normative proposals for "cyber"-regulation, including self-regulation, grounded on developments in the EU, US and the Far East, in international organizations (WTO, OECD, WIPO, ITU), in business fora, in NGOs, in the "Internet community" and in academic research. The multi-actor (government, business, civil society) and multi-level analysis (subsidiarity) pertains, for example to ex-ante and ex-post access-regulation, competition, network economics (external effects, essential facilities), public interest principles (human dignity, free speech, privacy, security), development and culture, consumer protection, cryptography, domain names and copyright.432pp.

Ceplair, Larry
Sarah Moore Grimke and Angelina Emily Grimke were the first women in America coming from a southern slave-holding family to speak publicly on behalf of the abolition of slavery. Creating a stir of controversy soon afterwards during the 1830s especially with the force of their testimony before the Massachusetts State Legislature, they soon found themselves defending publicly and at length the right of women to speak on moral and political issues and on the end of the subordination of women. The editor of this collection of eloquent political writings, Larry Ceplair, has written a critical introduction situating the Grimkes' in an historical and political context in which he describes the significance of their thought and work. Of special interest is the inclusion of writings documenting the Grimke sisters activities that preceded by 11 years the first woman's rights convention in America, held at Seneca Falls, N.Y. 380pp. N.B.
