Deloria, Vine, Jr.
This work brings together over 25 years of the work of Vine Deloria, Jr, once dubbed "the red man's Ralph Nader," now regarded as one of the most important living Native American figures in the late 1990s. For the past 30 years, Deloria has offered contributions to understanding the complexity of religion in America. In his writings he recognizes the spiritual desperation and religious breakdown in the contemporary situation, and provides the groundwork to get people to examine what they actually believe and how they must put those beliefs into practice. The essays in this collection express Deloria's concern for the religious dimensions and implications of human existence. His writings are engaged within a theoretical system of physical, not ideological, space, and ultimately give voice to this intellectual passion by calling into question our controversial religious institutions, commitments, worldviews, freedoms and experiences. 311pp. N.B. Lee, Eric Yong-Joong
This work examines the national and international legal issues of economic cooperation between North and South Korea under the current divided situation. In the last years of the 20th century and the early part of the 21st, the relationship between the two Koreas has been generating more concern than in earlier times. This new interest has been followed by two epoch-making developments since the early 1990s: the conclusion of the Basic Agreement of 1991 and the Declaration of the North South Summit of 2000. These events have caused remarkable changes in political as well as economic, relations between the north and the south. This book reviews the current legal regime and the setting up of a positive legal framework for inter-Korean economic cooperation, beginning to be regulated by international law at the start of the 21st century. 288pp.

Edited By Haussinger,D Etc
The hepatocyte adapts its metabolic and excretory function to changes in nutrient supply, xenobiotics, cytokines and hormones, which provides a basis for the role of the liver in the maintenance of the body's homeostasis. Such adaptations of hepatocellular function to the environment require not only structures for recognition of signal molecules and for the sensing of environmental alterations, but also machineries which transfer this information to intracellular effector sites. Considerable progress has been made during recent years with respect to the understanding of membrane-associated receptor systems and the molecular mechanisms by which signals are transduced from these receptors to the effector sites inside the cell, i.e. the nucleus and other organelles, the cytoskeleton and various enzymes. A complex signal transduction network involving a co-ordinated action of a variety of protein kinase and phosphatase cascades has been identified. Such signalling events are not only important for the understanding of the physiological regulation of liver cell function, but also provide new pathophysiological and therapeutic aspects. This text, the proceedings of a Falk Workshop on "Signalling in the Liver" (Part IV of the Liver Week Freiburg 1997) held in Freiburg, Germany, October 6, brings together an international forum of experts in both basic science and clinical applications.Slight fading to base of D/J spine.224PP

Lote, Christopher J.
The strengths of this popular text -- its conciseness and logical progression through renal physiology and pathophysiology -- are retained in the 4th edition. The text has been updated throughout, and the content has been expanded to make the book eminently suitable for `systems-based' courses. The book is designed for the needs of medical undergraduates but many doctors are likely to find it useful too.203pp.
