Davis, Neal and Sandy
Texas is big and amazingly diverse. It is a desert. It is a forest. It is bone dry. And it is teeming swampland. Author Neal Davis has managed to fit rides into one book that will show you all these faces of Texas. With this new, updated edition Davis has expanded his coverage to include several excursions into northern Mexico as well. Texas has over 3 million acres of inland lakes and rivers, 600 miles of oceanfront, and countless bayous and swamps in the eastern part of the state. Over 20 million acres of Texas are covered with trees. Most important to motorcyclists, it has almost 100 mountains that exceed 5,000 feet in elevation - with eight exceeding 8,000 feet - each conveniently adorned with smooth roads that are waiting for you to explore. Texas roads will take you from an ocean-side lobster shack with the best chowder outside of New England to a lush forest highway that winds through a bursting riverbed in the shadow of several snow-capped mountain peaks. You're guaranteed a great day when your most important decision will be whether to crank the throttle and power up a mountain road, or slip down into town to try the local deli. Texas has thousands of destinations, attractions, and landscapes to explore. Davis has laid out for you a choice sampling of the best roads to ride, the best restaurants along the way, and the best times to see (or avoid) the hot tourist spots. If you are taking your bike to Texas, or are ready to dust off your Texas plates, this book will help and entertain you along the way. As Davis explains in his Introduction, 'if you love motorcycling, you will love Texas'.286pp.

Townes, Emilie M.
This book offers an important contribution to the recovery and articulation of African-American womanist experience. Ida Wells-Barnett (1862-1931) was an activist, social reformer, and churchwoman. Womanist Justice, Womanist Hope recovers her life and historical context and examines the extent to which her perspective can be a resource for a contemporary womanist Christian social ethic. Beginning with a brief biographical sketch of Wells-Barnett, Emilie Townes examines the religious and social world in which she worked as well as her many speeches and publciations. Townes focuses especially on Wells-Barnett's participation in the anti-lynching campaigns of the late nineteenth century. She argues that Wells-Barnett's life and work can provide important lessons in leadership and social activism for contemporary Black churchwomen. nature of leadership for Black women. 228pp. N.B. Martin, F. Lester
This book is unique as it presents a concise history of Great Britain as an island kingdom from the reigns of William I in 1066 to that of Queen Elizabeth II in the present century. The preface contains an overview of the hereditary composition of the monarchy, the coronation portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, and a listing of the monarchs from 1066 to the present. The introduction contains, a brief history of the four countries - England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales - and how they came to be united as the Kingdom of Great Britain. The monarchy is divided into ten houses, or dynasties. A two-fold page layout describes each dynasty from the Normans to the Windsors. Each layout contains: a listing of individual monarchs and dates of reigns; depiction of coins with monarch images; listing of historical events occurring in each reign with marriage information; and two-colour sketches with narrative description of architectural buildings of the period. Thus, there is a 1000 year history of the evolution of architecture from defensive to domestic usage. Signed by author on title page. Head and tail of spine and D/J spine slightly bumped.
