Previous owner's signature on ffep. What is multiculturalism? The word is used everywhere, often without being clearly defined. This text offers critiques of the term and its uses by leading scholars in sociology, history, literary criticism, popular culture studies, ethnic studies, and critical legal studies. The contributors look at current uses of the rubric "multicultural" and offer analyses of complex relationships between popular culture, political events, and intellectual trends. Featuring essays by authors, activists, artists, and theoreticians, this book represents a range of multicultural studies today through essays that demarcate the cutting edge of contemporary cultural politics. 491pp.

Designed for the general reader as well as the student of Canadian history, this book recounts the colourful story of our military's past through the personalities and accomplishments of its soldiers. The twenty-six chapters commence with the 1759 Battle of the Plains of Abraham and the stirring story of Loyalist soldiers during the American Revolution. Great War sketches include the moving story of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry and an account of Sir Julian Byng, who led the Canadian Corps to victory at Vimy Ridge. World War Two stories include portraits of senior commanders Andy McNaughton and Harry Crerar as the 'D-Day Dodgers' -- Canadians who fought in Italy. 511pp.

The war in Bosnia and Herzegovina was characterized by human rights abuses on a scale not seen in Europe since World War II. It is not then surprising that the Dayton Agreement, together with related texts and agreements, lays out what is probably the most ambitious human rights protection regime ever included within an international peace settlement. The peace agreement imports myriad substantive guarantees for the protection of every category of human rights, including some through a novel application of the European Convention on Human Rights. The provisions are accompanied by a highly complex system for both monitoring and enforcement of their implementation. These enforcement procedures contain temporary elements, such as international field operations, and an array of tribunals and institutions intended to be permanent. The present volume is a contribution to the process of interpreting and assessing the post-Dayton human rights regime in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The analysis of the contributing human rights scholars and practitioners is located within the contexts of the immediate reality and needs of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the systemic significance of the peace agreement for other post-conflict and complex emergency situations worldwide. 333pp.

Donahue, Topher
As new but with slight bump to corner of front board.Take the snowiest mountains in Canada, add two Austrian immigrants, an army of adrenaline-addicted skiers (kings, queens, billionaires, average people and everyday ski bums) and throw a helicopter into the mix for an unforgettable story of mountain adventure. The tale begins when two childhood friends - Hans Gmoser and Leo Grillmair - leave post-war Austria and travel to Canada in search of adventure. They stumble upon employment taking skiers across the vast glaciers and through the thick forests of Western Canada. When skiers start asking the immigrant mountaineers if it would be possible to use a helicopter to reach the best high-altitude powder, the two find themselves catapulted into a project brimming with more adventure, success, tragedy and fame than they could have dreamed.Complete with archival and contemporary photos, this is the inside story of the people, thrills, accidents and innovations behind the evolution of a sport from a dangerous, ramshackle and lawless enterprise into a multi-million dollar industry offering reliable access to one of the world's most exciting forms of recreation. 293pp.
