Diazotrophic bacteria convert atmospheric nitrogen to plant-useable form and this input of nitrogen through biological fixation is of great agronomic importance. The contributions presented in this volume relate to free-living nitrogen fixers and the diazotrophs associated with plants. Symbiotic association of Frankia with non-legumes and cyanobacterial associations are also discussed. Research topics covered in this volume include the biochemistry and genetics of diazotrophs, recent developments in improvement of plant-microbe interactions and their molecular basis, the use of molecular probes in taxonomy and ecology of diazotrophs and reports on field applications, agronomic importance and improvement in methodologies for assessing their contribution to plants. This book provides valuable information not only for researchers working in the field of biological nitrogen fixation but also for biochemistry, molecular biologists, microbiologists and agronomists.360pp.N.B.Slight marking to base of spine and one inch adjacent front and rear boards where label removed.

This is the first publication of AIJA's Antitrust Sub-Commission of the International Business Law Standing Commission. The book is the result of the reports from 20 different jurisdictions for the working session organized by the Antitrust Sub-Commission during the Annual Congress of AIJA in Sydney in September 1998. The reports were based upon a questionnaire prepared by the General Reporter and Editor and generally reflect legislation up until January 1999. The purpose of this book is to discuss the critical issues in applying antitrust laws to the media sector, having in mind three main issues, namely deregulation and convergence in the media industry worldwide, the effect of antitrust laws on the new media environment, and the balance between sector-specific regulation and antitrust rules. 442pp.

Feature interaction is a phenomenon well-known to the designers of modern feature-rich telephone switching systems (public or private). This phenomenon occurs when one feature modifies or subverts the operation of another one. This work brings together representatives of the telecommunications industry, the software industry, and the research community, working on various aspects of the problem in order to discuss possible solutions and their practical applications, as well as setting directions for further research. 329pp.

Hughes, Judith M.
The science of mind has been plagued by intractable philosophical puzzles, chief among them the distortions of memory and the relation between mind and body. Sigmund Freud's clinical practice forced him to grapple with these problems, and out of that struggle psychoanalysis emerged. "From Freud's Consulting Room" charts the development of his ideas through his clinical work, the successes and failures of his most dramatic and significant case histories, and the creation of a discipline recognizably distinct from its neighbours. In Freud's encounters with hysterical patients, the mind-body problem could not be set aside. Through the case of Anna O., Emmy von N., Elisabeth von R., Dora, and Little Hans, he rethought that problem, as Hughes demonstrates, in terms of psychosexuality. When he tried to sort out the value of memories, with Dora and Little Hans as well as with the Rat Man and the Wolf Man, Freud reintroduced psychosexuality and elaborated the Oedipus complex. Hughes also traces the evolution of Freud's conception of the analytic situation and of the centrality of transference, again through the clinical material, including the case of Freud himself, who at one point figured as his own "chief patient". Moving from case to case, Hughes has coaxed them into telling a coherent story. Her text leads the reader to see the origins and development of psychoanalysis from a new perspective.Previous owner's signature on ffep.235pp.
