Jannuzzi, Michele; Smith, Richard
Technological advances have changed not only the constraints and possibilities of individual media, but the interplay between media, and our expectations. Never before have we had the potential to channel and cross-reference such a wealth and diversity of information; and never before have we been posed such difficult questions about how information is structured, delivered, and accessed; about who sees what, where, and for how long. Designers not only have to be successful in designing for this medium and that medium but in making them work in tandem with each other, without tautology or contradiction. A cross-media approach involves media selection, optimisation, and articulation to define effective and efficient strategies for the delivery of information, where each medium is played according to its strengths. In this environment everyone is a prospector: everything is up for grabs. This book illustrates these themes through the working methodology of Jannuzzi Smith, one of Europe's most innovative and influential design studios.

Edited By Witkowski, Jan A. And Inglis, John R.
When Charles Davenport published Heredity in Relation to Eugenics in 1911, he advanced his ideas of where genetics would go in the rest of the 20th century. In this volume, a group of prominent scientists take some of Davenport's themes-mental illness, human evolution, nature and nurture-and discuss them in a 21st century context. Davenport's original book is reprinted along with the essays. Contents: Complete facsimile reprint of Heredity in Relation to Eugenics by Charles Davenport; Additional Essays: Preface (Matt Ridley); Davenport Biography (Jan Witkowski); Davenport' s Eugenics (Elof Carlson); Human Variation/Evolution/Founder Effects (Douglas Wallace); Psychiatric Disorders (Daniel Weinberger and David Goldman); Behavioral Disorders (Lindsey Kent and Simon Baron Cohen); Using Genetics (Philip Reilly); Insights from the Human Genome: Genes and Variation (Maynard Olson); Genetics and Equality (Ronald Dworkin); Genetics and Human Nature (Lewis Wolpert).298pp.

An A-Z exploration of all that peers into tomorrow, this guide defines the meaning of 400 of the most meaningful topics related to this oft-misunderstood, oft-consulted-upon science. Discussing everything from aeromancy (seeing by observing atmospheric phenomena) to zoomancy (divination by the appearance or behavior of animals) this veritable encyclopaedia covers the 398 others in between. 546pp.

Maas, Marnix C.
Molecular imaging techniques enable the visualization of biological processes in living organisms. These techniques rely on synthetic biomolecules ('tracers') that specifically target a physiological process of interest without significantly disturbing it, and that poses some property which allows them to be detected externally. If the detectable property is radioactivity, the molecules are referred to as radiotracers, and the imaging technique is referred to as nuclear imaging. The aims of the research presented in this work are to determine the spatial resolution experimentally, the energy resolution and time resolution attainable with monolithic scintillator detectors, to analyze the dependence of these detector properties on physical quantities such as the scintillator light yield, the APD gain and the noise characteristics of the front-end electronics, and to predict the performance of a small animal PET system based on these detectors. The research presented in this publication is primarily based on experimental work on prototype detector modules. Simulation studies have been carried out in parallel; these are presented elsewhere. Some of the results of these simulation studies are also used in this work. 168pp. N.B. Small crease to bottom corner of rear cover.
