Gallagher, Peter
Developing countries comprise a two-thirds majority of the membership of the World Trade Organization, with nearly 30 of these classed by the UN as being among the 48 least-developed countries in the world. In order to ensure the equitable participation of these countries in the benefits of the global trading system, the GATT Uruguay Round Agreements that created the WTO accorded special and differential treatment to developing countries. This guide covers these provisions of the WTO Agreements, with detailed information on how developing countries can benefit from special rules governing such areas as; access to developed country markets in all major commodities and services, the dispute settlement process, trade policy review, foreign direct investment, environmental and labour standards, and technical assistance. The Guide also offers the reader case studies on how some developing country members of the WTO (Uganda, India, and Cote d'Ivoire) are making progress in working with the obligations and the benefits provided to them by the WTO Agreements. 343pp.

Whelan, Richard
Slight crease to the spine. Slight crease to head of d/j spine. The author describes the causes, events and consequences of a conflict he calls "a world war in miniature". He addresses such questions as why the Truman administration decided to intrude militarily in Korea after merely protesting when Eastern Europe and China fell to the communists, why the United States risked causing World War III to save a repressive regime and why the Americans settled for something less than the resounding victory they had come to expect. In Whelan's analysis, the war had momentous repercussions for NATO, the UN, Russia, China and the arms race. And it provided the prologue to America's next war in Asia - Vietnam. 428pp.

Edited By Hunt,R.H.,Tygat,G.N.J.,
The impact of Helicobacter pylori on basic science and the clinical management of patients with the complications of this infection is bewildering. The explosion of recent information both in the laboratory and at the bedside has progressed at an unprecedented rate. The objective of this text, in furthering this progress, has been to integrate this recent information and organize a series of presentations and discussions between investigators and clinicians on all aspects of H. pylori research and to review the current position and future research directions. To that end, the second meeting "Helicobacter pylori: Basic Mechanisms to Clinical Cure" was organized in June 1996 in Ottawa, Canada, following the successful format of the first such meeting held in Amelia Island, Florida, in 1993. The meeting again focused on all timely aspects of H. pylori research. Internationally renowned basic and clinical scientists explored in depth the spectrum of H. pylori infection and the related complications of gastritis, peptic ulcer, gastric cancer and lymphoma. The manuscripts in this text of the proceedings of the meeting reflect up-to-date information and state of the art approaches to research and management of H. pylori infection and should provide an invaluable reference source. 419pp.
