Stockton, Kathryn Bond
This book encompasses aspects of feminist theory, post-structuralist materialisms, Victorian essays, and two prominent nineteenth-century women's novels (Villette and Middlemarch) to explore desire between women as a form of what the author calls 'spiritual materialism'. By engaging specific texts by Irigary, Bronte, and Eliot, the author explores a surprising homology that makes materialism a hidden God. That is to say, post-structuralist feminists are caught on the horns of Victorians' obsession: how to chart channels between realms commonly considered approachable and those considered finally inaccessible. 273pp. N.B. Edited By Paumgartner,G.and Beuers,U.
Bile acid research has attracted increasing attention from both basic scientists and clinical hepatologists over the last decade. Experimental studies have expanded our knowledge of the role of bile acids in liver disease, and well-designed clinical trials have documented beneficial effects of bile acid treatment for a number of hepatobiliary diseases. These proceedings of an International Falk Workshop held in Munich, January 1995, provide insights into concepts in bile acid chemistry, bile acid synthesis and metabolism, and transport of bile acids across the hepatocyte. The role of bile acids in bile formation, cholestasis and hepatotoxicity are discussed. Finally, the book addresses experimental studies and hypotheses about the putative mechanisms of action of ursodeoxycholic acid in cholestatic liver diseases, and summarizes the clinical applications of bile acid treatment on the basis of controlled clinical trials. N.B.D/J spine slightly faded with slight mark to base of d/j spine.161pp.

Candell-Riera, J and Ortega-Alcalde D. (Editors)
This book, which is based on the experience of a single hospital team, encompasses major issues in nuclear cardiology with a clinical orientation. It lays particular emphasis on everyday clinical problems and situations which particularly address technical, physical or experimental advances. There are three parts: the first is a review of technical and procedural issues; in the second the major clinical conditions in which nuclear cardiology techniques have an application are reviewed, with a critical appraisal of their uses; and the third part provides an overview of the statistical and epidemiological fundamentals which are relevant for a proper understanding and evaluation of the results of nuclear studies. The book is addressed to all cardiologists and nuclear medicine specialists. Faint marks to boards but otherwise like new. 401pp.
