De Bruyn, Gerd
This work contains text in English and German. In the summer 1978, the cover of the magazine "Bauwelt" showed a photograph of an unusual building. It was tersely introduced to readers as a 'private house with office in Bad Nauheim', but it was immediately obvious that this was a built manifesto. What appeared was a strictly symmetrically articulated, steeply rising facade, emanating dignity and composure. It also seemed able to manage without windows, which further enhanced its austere elegance. And then there were the strikingly slender, sharp-angled wall elements, which seemed captivatingly graceful, or even delicate and fragile - as though folded from paper. The fact is that, long before Gilles Deleuze had cast his spell on a new generation of aesthetically ambitious architects, Johannes Peter Holzinger was putting his folding skills into practice as a matter of course.60pp.

Falk Symposium No. 83, held in Bolzano, Italy, April 1995, brought together a panel of international experts to deal with special clinical topics concerning the liver, bile ducts and pancreas. The first section of this book, the proceedings of the conference, deals with the rational clinical and laboratory approach to liver disease patients, mainly with therapeutic aspects of chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis of the liver, liver cancer and portal hypertension. The second section is devoted to bile duct treatment with overviews of the non-surgical treatment of gallstones, the endoscopic therapy of biliary stenosis, and the role of the sphincter of Oddi in biliopancreatic disease. The final section describes recent progress in the field of the pathogenesis of therapy of acute pancreatitis, chronic pancreatitis, and cancer of the pancreas. Afford,Thelma
From the 1920s to the 1940s, there was a diverse flowering of amateur theatres in Adelaide which were experimental, creatively inventive and ahead of their times. Other Australian capital cities had their own Little Theatres during this period, but some of the Adelaide theatres were unique in anticipating later creative theatre movements, including overseas ones. These Little Theatres helped to form the basis of Adelaide's reputation as 'the city of culture' and also laid the groundwork for the later development of the Adelaide Festival of Arts. Certainly the subsequent landscapes of the Australian theatre scene would have been very different without Adelaide's Little Theatres of the 1920s to 1940s. 240pp.

Falk, Richard A.
In his clear-sighted, humane, and provocative way, Richard Falk calls for a revolution in thinking about the future of world order. "Explorations at the Edge of Time" develops the idea that a major cultural shift from modernism to post modernism is under way, creating both new difficulties and new opportunities in the domain of global public policy. The author observes, 'A post modem possibility implies the human capacity to transcend the violence, poverty, ecological decay, oppression, injustice, and secularism of the modern world'. Recognizing that the concepts of 'progress' and 'development' have changed due to the breakdown of the modernist consensus, Falk contends that most problems have transnational dimensions. He proposes a commitment to grassroots globalism, and he challenges aspiring 'citizen pilgrims' to think and act in ways that will enhance their feeling of identity with the rest of creation. Falk's 'rooted utopianism' challenges our political imagination in relation to pressing global problems and helps forge an overall vision of the future. What is at stake is the building of political understanding amidst the appreciation of unity and diversity for a hopeful entry upon the 21st Century. N.B. Some pencil annotations. Head and tail of spine and corners of boards slightly bumped. Slight mark to ffep. 255pp.
