Paterson, Lachy
This book illuminates the whole colonial discourse between Maori and Pakeha as it appeared in the Maori-language newspapers during a critical period in New Zealand history. In 1855, the Maori world was changing. Many Maori took part in the market economy, most had become Christian, many could read and write, some had sold land to the settler government. The government expected these trends to continue. Ultimately, Maori and European would become the iwi kotahi - one people. The government disseminated this message to Maori in its newspaper "Te Karere Maori". There were other newspapers, most importantly the rival Maori government the Kingitanga's "Te Hokioi". And while these newspapers were used for propaganda, they provided a forum, with many Maori and some Pakeha debating the issues of the day.252pp.

Vogler, Stephen
Consistently voted the number one ski resort in North America, Whistler - situated at the top of a narrow pass in the Coast Mountains 120 kilometres from Vancouver - sees two million visitors each year, even though the town itself only boasts a full-time population of 10,000. World attention has been increasingly focused on Whistler since 2003, when it was chosen to host the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. "Top of the Pass" is the incredible story of how a cluster of modest log cabins called Alta Lake mushroomed into the glamorous year-round recreation Mecca known as Whistler. Stephen Vogler gives a rare glimpse of a mountain community and the lifestyles of its locals and visitors. Brimming with stunning colour photographs by Toshi Kawano and Bonny Makarewicz, this spectacular coffee-table book shows why Whistler is one of the most visited destinations in Canada.144pp.

Rothenberg, Naftali
"The Wisdom of Love" strives to challenge the discrepancy between the way source texts relate to love and the way they are perceived to do so, introducing readers to the extensive, profound, and significant treatment of love in the Jewish canon. This is a book about love, not its repression; it is an opportunity to study the wisdom of love, not those who lack such wisdom and are unlikely to ever acquire it. The book brings about not only a change in perception - recognising the existence of the wisdom of love per se - but also the realisation that this wisdom is the very foundation of religious wisdom as a whole, rather than a peripheral branch of it. All love derives from a single source: love between man and woman. It is from this source that all other manifestations of love, such as love of God, love of wisdom, love of one's fellow, draw their meaning.
