Edited By Cremades,Bernardo M.
This text contains the papers presented at the 1998 Vancouver IBA Conference. The leading experts in international commercial arbitration presented their point of view from their respective countries on the situation of arbitration in Latin America. They reached the conclusion that international commercial arbitration in Latin American countries is in a state of good health, after analyzing: the general ratification of the international arbitration regulatory conventions; the legislative amendments enacted in the different parliaments; and the judicial activity in Latin American countries, in which case law, with its inevitable surprises, follows the lines of the best case law in countries familiar with arbitration. Many ad hoc arbitrations are being held, but, above all, the statistics from the arbitration administrative institutions demonstrate the importance of arbitration in Latin America. The usage of bi- or multilateral treaties of international public law to protect investments, as a basis for setting up the arbitral proceedings for international private law, confirms the prosperity of arbitral proceedings in Latin America.120pp.

Edited By Sorensen, Lene Bogh and Eliason, Leslie B.
These eleven essays by historians, political scientists, sociologists and anthropologists establish a foundation for appreciating the political history of Central Europe. By examining the political landscape in each country, the contributors aim to evoke the legacy of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and bridge the gap between the two extreme images of Central European history. Specific topics presented include: the lost dimensions of social movements and classes; the relationship between the concepts of 'nation' and 'state'; Austrian democracy; party system development; the myth of Czech liberalism; the Sudeten-German problem; Slovak politics; the regime change in Hungary; and, the relationship between democracy and organised interests. By focusing on the consequences of past regime types, social structures and cultural contexts for democractic development, this volume presents a significant base from which future scholars can proceed on a country-by-country analysis. Booij, Geert.; Marle, Jaap Van
A revival of interest in morphology has occurred during recent years. "The Yearbook of Morphology" series, published since 1988, has proven to be an eminent support for this upswing of morphological research, since it contains articles on topics which are central in the current theoretical debates which are frequently referred to. In the "Yearbook of Morphology 2002", a number of articles is devoted to the morphology of a variety of pidgin and creole languages which appear to have much more morphology than traditionally assumed. A second topic of this volume is the morphological use of truncation for the coinage of proper names in Germanic and Romance languages, in particular endearment forms, with highly interesting consequences for the theory of phonology-morphology interaction. Thirdly, this volume contains articles on how affixes are combined and ordered in complex words, and the complex linguistic principles behind these orderings. 324pp.N.B.Base of spine slightly marked.
