Edited By Pryles,Michael
"Dispute Resolution in Asia" was first published in 1998 and was one of the few titles to deal exclusively with the Asian region. This second edition is not only an updated version of the first edition but is also an expanded work. Chapters on India and Indonesia have been added. The first chapter presents an overview of dispute resolution in Asia and examines the question whether there is an Asian style of dispute resolution. The remaining chapters focus on 12 particular countries. They are important trading countries or countries which are the recipients of substantial foreign investments. This second edition fills the need for increased information on dispute resolution in a region whose economic importance is still growing. The book features: the examination of dispute resolution in 12 countries providing a wide spectrum of Asian laws and approaches; a broad coverage in terms of its subject matter; a variety of contributions that reflect the diversity of legal systems and cultures in Asia; specialist focus on countries with which contributors have particular expertise or experience; and statistics on arbitration centres in Asia. 410pp.

Examining the benefits achieved by deferring income or accelerating deductions, this text refers to the income tax systems of the United States and Japan. The United States has been at the forefront of recognizing the time value of money benefit of tax deferral and of devising methods to prevent tax deferral. Japan, on the other hand, is only gradually placing greater emphasis on tax deferral issues, in light of the activities of foreign companies, and the constant introduction of new financial products which take advantage of the tax deferral allowed under Japanese income tax rules. The book starts with a detailed discussion of the 1948 Cary Brown model and its various interpretations, an understanding of which is key to any analysis of tax deferral issues. The author goes on to provide a comparative analysis of the different tax deferral patterns that can arise under the United States and Japanese income tax systems, and of methods introduced by the United States to eliminate the tax deferral benefit. A history and overview of the Japanese income tax system is included in the appendix. Principles of tax deferral and time value of money are crucial in an era of globalization in commerce and finance. They cut across all areas of taxation and are particularly important in the context of taxation of derivatives and other financial instruments. 224pp.

Edited By Richardson, Diane
Previous owner's signature on ffep.Little attention has traditionally been given to theorising heterosexuality. Heterosexuality tends to be taken-for-granted, as something that is 'natural' and 'normal'. Theorising Heterosexuality questions this assumption and demonstrates how much of our understanding of ourselves and the social worlds we inhabit is based upon unquestioned assumptions about the nature of heterosexuality. * In what ways does heterosexuality encode and structure everyday life? * How does heterosexuality shape our sense of identity? * What is the nature of heterosexual desire? * What is the relationship between heterosexuality and feminism? In addition to addressing these questions, the contributors to Theorising Heterosexuality provide a critical examination of recent debates about heterosexuality, in particular within postmodern, feminist and Queer theory. Well written in a clear and lively style, this book brings together leading authors in the field, who represent a variety of differing approaches and viewpoints. Heterosexuality is theorised in terms of its institutionalisation within society and culture, as practice and as identity. The result is an impressive and exciting collection, whose insights invite a radical rethinking of many of the concepts we use to theorise social relations. Theorising Heterosexuality will be of interest to a wide range of students in the social sciences and humanities, especially in: sociology, cultural studies, lesbian and gay studies, social psychology and women's studies.204pp
