Edited By Uno, Kimio
339pp.The volume is based on a policy simulation model linking sixty countries and regions at a detailed industrial level, covering 99.5 per cent of the world's economic activities. Country models are linked by trade matrices that explicitly describe annual trade flow among world regions. Energy demand and supply is explained in response to changing prices reflecting emission trading and other market-oriented policy instruments. The impact on global environment is gauged through CO2 emission. Simulation results to 2010 with an explicit description of economy-energy-environment feedback under different scenarios serve as an open platform for policy debate. Comparisons with results from other research works are provided, together with methodological comparisons. An annotated bibliography is also included.

Edited By Carraro,Carlo
The book first offers a theoretical framework for understanding the features of international agreements on climate, then shows different integrated assessment modelling approaches designed to analyse the impact of possible agreements of emissions abatement and the related costs. Potential implications of the Kyoto agreement, institutional and legal issues and the political economy behind international agreements on climate are not neglected, thus providing a comprehensive, albeit preliminary, exploration of crucial aspects of current negotiations on climate. 229pp.

Modernity and its Futures is a major introductory textbook which examines the forces reshaping modern industrial societies and the new patterns, structures and relationships that are emerging in the contemporary world. The key debates about these changes are introduced and critically discussed; they include the transformation of Eastern Europe, the collapse of the USSR, globalisation, environmental challenges, post industrialism, cultural change and post–modernism. The book also looks back to the formation of modern societies, and of social science, to explore the character of 'modernity' and the relationship between 'early–modern' and 'post–modern' societies, and assess whether the paradigms and theories used to analyse 'modern' societies are adequate for social formations today. 391pp. N.B. Previous owners inscription to ffep. Corners of covers slightly rubbed.
