Stein, Joel B.
This is the ultimate guide to getting the most out of your visit to the City Different. With the aid of this book and the internet, you can plan your trip using over 1,000 links to sites belonging to hotels, restaurants, historical sites, museums, retail stores, galleries, spas, pueblos and special places just outside the city. This book was designed for the traveller who stays for a few days, a week or perhaps a little longer. It highlights everything to see in this centuries-old city and takes you to the places you are most likely to enjoy, the places that provide the most immediate contact with the rich history of one of the oldest cities in America, where three cultures interact separately and together to create a rich and unique cultural mosaic. The guide covers key travel information, a downtown walking tour, and diversions: from the famed Santa Fe Opera, to the unique Tesuque Pueblo Flea Market, to the legendary artist colony on Canyon Road. Also included are historical buildings and art galleries, museums, restaurants with a past, lodgings of historical value, shopping and spas, the countryside from Abiquiu to Taos, outdoor activities from hiking to skiing, the Pueblos, their feast days and casinos, places of worship, secret spots for taking those special pictures, and major yearly events and celebrations. World-renowned photographer Marcia Keegan lavishly illustrates every section with corresponding photographs. Internet links guide you to the actual web sites of the places covered, where you can learn a great deal before you even get to Santa Fe! If you will be pressed for time, you can also use the sites to help you decide before arrival which actual places you are most interested in spending your valuable time and money.220pp.

Weedon, Chris
N.B. Previous owners inscription to ffep. What do the theories of poststructuralism have to offer contemporary feminism? In a discussion which assumes no prior knowledge of these complex theoretical issues, the author argues that feminism is a politics which depends for its effectiveness on an alliance of theory and practice. Making the case that poststructuralism is the theory with the most explanatory and practical relevance to feminism, she examines the possibilities for a feminist practice. In "Feminist Practice and Poststructuralist Theory" she suggests that patriarchal power is structural: it exists in institutions and social practices and not merely in individual intentions. It is, therefore, not a part of immutable nature but open to effective theoretical analysis and practical change. To develop this view, she mobilizes recent poststructuralist developments in the theory of language, subjectivity and power to develop a sophisticated feminist politics that takes into account not only questions of language and gender but also of class and race. Her argument, finally, is that it is through poststructuralist theory that an adequate feminist practice may emerge. 187pp.

Francis, Daniel
British Columbia's colourful story has been told many times, but until now no one has attempted to relate the chronicle specifically for young readers. From the gold rush to the Gumboot Navy and from 'bride ships' to WAC, Bennett, BC history comes alive in this highly illustrated and vivid account by award-winning writer and historian Daniel Francis. Starting with the story of BC's aboriginal people and their lives prior to the arrival of the Europeans, "Far West" recounts first contact with early explorers such as Captain James Cook and Captain George Vancouver and the changes the fur trade brought to the 'New World'. Francis then describes how BC was born, starting with the gold rush and Confederation eras, going through to modern times and speculating on BC's future. This title is richly illustrated with archival photos, colourful paintings, maps and original illustrations. 175pp.
